Space 21

Anno Dracula - Kim Newman

I stayed up til 2:30 am to finish this, and not because I wanted to be able to count the pages for the game. I like that a book about Dracula isn't centered on him as the main character, that it illustrates different vampiric bloodlines instead of showing them all coming from him, and that the main thrust of the story is a mystery, even though the murderer is set out at the beginning of the book. Watching the interactions of vampires and "warms" and how they are trying to navigate a new society that has been sprung upon both of them is fascinating. I love how the book illustrates that not every vampire would grab for ultimate power if they didn't have to hide, and not every "warm" would destroy something they didn't understand without trying to learn about it first.
